Following an internal career move, an opportunity has arisen to appoint a new Head of Corporate Air Travel (CAT). The person we appoint will lead the CAT team and ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient and effective air transport service to BAE Systems that is compliant with the stringent regulations that apply to a business of this type.



CAT is a business within Shared Services with discrete financial accountability. The Head of CAT is based at Warton and leads a multi-disciplinary team of circa 30 highly skilled people that includes both BAE Systems employees and subcontractors.



The Head of CAT is the Accountable Manager for CAT's Air Operators Certificate and EASA Part 145 and Part M approvals. As such the appointment is subject to CAA approval. The Head of CAT is a member of the CAT Ltd Board and reports to the Shared Services Commercial Director who is also Chairman of CAT Ltd.



As Head of Corporate Air Travel your main responsibilities will include:



Leadership of the CAT team.

Ensuring that benchmark standards of safety are maintained across all areas of the business including flight and ground operations.

Management of the CAT business in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements, including those of the UK CAA and European Airworthiness authorities.

Delivering efficient and effective air transport services to meet BAE Systems requirements through a combination of in-house capability and sub-contracted arrangements.

Establishing and executing a strategic plan for the business that aligns future service capability with its customers' requirements.



Critical competencies

Demonstrable experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team with full financial and operational accountability for all aspects of performance.

A thorough understanding and working experience of the regulatory and operational issues associated with commercial aircraft and air passenger services, especially those relating to safety.

An understanding of the statutory responsibilities of Company Directors.

Demonstrable capability to lead change to effect service, operational and financial performance improvements using robust project management approaches including planning and organisational development.

An ability to work effectively in both long term planning and immediate short term deadline environments.

An ability to work with, influence and be influenced by internal and external stakeholders including customers, suppliers and regulatory authorities to ensure attainment of safety, performance and service goals.



As the Head of Corporate Air Travel it is essential that your skills and qualifications include:



Degree / HND or equivalent qualification, with extensive managerial experience.

A sound working knowledge of financial, legal, quality, HS&E and personnel issues.

A good working knowledge of IT.

We are currently looking for individuals from an engineering background to join our team of authors to support the origination, maintenance and delivery of Typhoon Technical Publications.



You will be responsible for the preparation of initial publications and subsequent amendments of the Typhoon maintenance publications in accordance with departmental procedures.



Working closely with internal and external customers, you will assess and incorporate all requests ensuring all tasks are delivered within agreed time-scales and budgets.



You will also have responsibility for maintaining the validity of management information to provide accurate configuration control.





As a Technical Publications Engineer your skills, qualifications and experience will ideally include:



An engineering background with in depth technical experience.



Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.



Previous publications or writing experience and knowledge of publications specifications/standards would be beneficial.





What we're looking for in you:



Though avionic experience would be beneficial this is not a pre-requisite. We are looking for individuals from an engineering background; be it aircraft, naval, automotive, heavy engineering; with an understanding of design drawings and build processes who can utilise this knowledge and experience in a new role.



Previous experience as an author is not necessary as on-the-job training will be provided to get the successful applicant "up-to-speed" on the Technical Publications software application/databases.
